Just as Susan Sontag did for photography and Marshall McLuhan did for small screen, Virginia Heffernan (called one of the? best living writers of English prose?) reveals the logic and aesthetics behind the Internet. Since its inception, the Internet has morphed from at bottom an extension of traditional media into its own full-fledged civilization. It is among mankind?s great masterpieces?a massive work of art. As an belief, it rivals monotheism. We all inhabit this fascinating place. But its deep logic, its cultural potential, and its societal impact often stump us. In this deep and thoughtful book, Virginia Heffernan presents an original and far-reaching analysis of what the Internet is and does. Life online, in the extremely visual, social, portable, and global incarnation rewards certain virtues. The new medium favors speed, accuracy, wit, prolificacy, and versatility, and its carriage and functions are changing how we perceive, experience, and understand the world.

Chinese artist 朱金石 Zhu Jinshi’s abstract paintings are incredible—mostly as they resemble more as sculptures than paintings. Born in Beijing in 1954, the artist is known to apply his oil paint with spatulas and shovels. “Thickness … visually guides you to change your worldview,” he said. “It can be used as a point of breakthrough.” This head-on view does not really showcase the brilliance of this work, so I have also photographed another one from the side so you can see how the oil paints leave the canvas and protrude a great few inches from the surface. Zhu Jinshi was born in Beijing, China in 1954, where he currently lives and works. * * * * * * * * Vietnam was our original choice for a touring holiday back in 2015, mainly to see Halong Bay, but we got sidetracked by the gorgeous pictures of Myanmar in the brochures and ended up going there instead. Myanmar, and probably touring holidays in general, was hard work, we are both in our sixties and do not really travel that well after having a lot of pampered holidays in the Maldives, so after the final three hour wait in another airport lounge we said 'never again'. But three months later after sitting back and looking at the best set of holiday photo's we have ever taken, we realised what wonderful people we had met and amazing places we had seen and that you have to put up with airport lounges, train stations and car journeys to get that. So the next thing we knew we were booking another touring holiday to Vietnam with Mango Journeys based in Cambodia! Warren the owner of Mango, actually an Aussie guy, sorted out our itinerary, click to view, we booked a couple...

DUBLIN STREET ART - Francis Street
DUBLIN STREET ART - Francis Street
[UPDATE] DUBLIN City Council has run out of funding for key graffiti removal programmes, a Northside councillor has claimed. Cllr Anne Carter (Lab) claims that she has been informed that no more graffiti will be removed by Dublin City Council unless it is seriously offensive or on its property. [ORIGINAL] For the last three years I have photographed Graffiti and "street art" in general throughout greater Dublin and to date I have had the impression that the local authorities or the police (Garda) were not really interested in taking any action against graffiti artists. This may be about to change because the Green Party are now part of our new government. Green Party T.D. John Gormley has in the past called for sweeping measures to stop the “serious problem” of graffiti. Namely: The introduction of specific legislation to deal with the offence of graffiti/street art The establishment of a Special Garda Graffiti Unit to target artists Rewards to be offered for tip-offs...
