Some of the most memorable images in the history of photography have come about through the creative tension between art and commerce - creating images that have been able to transcend the time in which they were made, and enabling them to represent that time in perpetuity.
Many of the artists featured in this edition are the hidden names behind the some of the world's biggest and most prestigious brands, like Bruce Weber the photographer who defines the semi erotic brand imagery behind Abercrombie & Fitch and Calvin Klein, or a name less well known Solve Sundsbo who crafts the provocative brand imagery for Tom Ford. London based but Argentinian Mario Testino is almost as famous as the subjects he shoots. Forever remembered for his Tom Ford era Gucci campaigns with styling by none other than Corinne Roitfeld, and who could forget the "rock with royalty" campaign Testino launched to launch the new Burberry image to stellar heights around the world.
Featuring the greats;

From a fur-trapping fort to a thriving metropolitan community, change has always been a part of Ogdens history. Settled in 1850 by Mormon pioneers, Ogden was forever transformed by the arrival of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. As horse-drawn carriages gave way to motor cars, a busy downtown district grew up around Ogdens Union Station and notorious Twenty-fifth Street. Landmark businesses, such as J.G. Read & Brothers Company and the Broom Hotel, became a part of the citys unique identity. Also unique to the city were its celebrations and special events, like parades, musicals, and sporting competitions. While change has always come to Ogden, the memories remain.

Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g, notes, index, and bibliography. From the publisher's notes, "The chance location or random event-whether as a strategy or as a subject of investigation-has been central to many artists practices across a multiplicity of forms, including expressionism, automatism, the skilful-made, collage, surrealist and conceptual photography, fluxus event scores, film, audio and video, performance, and participatory artworks. But why-a century after Dada and Surrealism s blue ribbon systematic enquiries-does chance remain a key strategy in artists investigations into the contemporary world? The writings in this anthology examine the gap between purpose and outcome, showing it to be crucial to the meaning of chance in art. The book provides a new critical context for chance procedures in art since 1900 and aims to meet such questions as why artists deliberately set up such a gap in their practice; what new possibilities this suggests; and why the viewer finds the art so engaging. Artists surveyed include Vito Acconci, Bas Jan Ader, Francis Alys, William Anastasi, John Baldessari, Walead Beshty, See Boyle, George Brecht, Marcel Broodthaers, John Cage, Sophie Calle, Tacita Dean, Stan Douglas, Marcel Duchamp, Brian Eno, Fischli Weiss, Ceal Floyer, Huang Yong Ping, Douglas Huebler, Allan Kaprow, Alison Knowles, Jiri Kovanda, Jorge Macchi, Christian Marclay, Cildo Meireles, Robert Morris, Bruce Nauman, Yoko Ono, Gabriel Orozco, Cornelia Parker, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Daniel Spoerri, Wolfgang Tillmans, Keith Tyson,...

In 1892, artistic photographer Ard G. Emery established a studio and gallery profession in a bustling East Tawas community overlooking Lake Huron on the sunrise side of Iosco County, Michigan. For 12 years, Emery captured the suavity and history of the area through his camera lens. His collodion glass negatives celebrated personal triumphs, honored the intrepidity of the working man, and saluted the candidness of the young. Emery used the most modern techniques and finest materials, but he was fascinated by the standard. Emery often journeyed with his travelling studio to the countryside to photograph the everyday life of normal people. Zealous about his artfulness, Emery not only preserved days gone by, but he also preserved his own spirit--one that will be forever remembered in Iosco County.
