Look after our kids home for holidays - Rutland Herald

Can’t we have a college originally- season basketball tournament in Rutland County. I mean, we have three schools and almost every year they all seem to hit the road for their hoop bashes. There is something festive about an earlyseason college basketball match. The Green Mountain College men’s team recently returned from the North Country Tip-Off Tournament in Potsdam, N. Y. The Casteton men’s squad made a offensively showing in splitting its games at the Hampton Inn Tournament hosted by UMass- Dartmouth... The Castleton women’s team made the biggest spatter with a sweep at the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament in Northampton, Mass. The College of St. Joseph women’s basketball team was in West Hartford, Conn. , competing in the University of St. Joseph Tip-Off Contest. The CSJ men still have their early-season tournament in front of them with a trip to Juniata College’s Doc Greene Tournament in Huntingdon, Pa. , Dec. It was in December 2014 when we had such a event. It was hosted by Castleton and the field included Bates, Elms and Mount Holyoke. If the three schools could get together and agree to each curb one every third year it would be a beautiful thing for our little corner of the world. You can be certain Castleton University football train Tony Volpone and all of his counterparts in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference were thrilled with Husson’s victory over Springfield in the opening muster of the NCAA Division III... There are 27 Division III conferences in the country and the ECFC was ranked 25th among them by d3football. The rankings do not incorporate the NESCAC, of which Middlebury is a member, because the NESCAC teams play only within their own league — meaning there is no means of comparison with other conferences. Being ranked 25th out of 27 conferences: Appropriate. Until Husson’s benchmark victory, the ECFC had never won a postseason game. True, it has only been around since 2009 but there have been opportunities, between roll games and NCAA playoff contests. Husson’s win was exactly the type of accomplishment the ECFC needed to become credible. This week Husson makes the 550-mile tour to Doylestown, Pa. , to take on Delaware Valley, where the ECFC team will again be a big underdog. But the Eagles have already struck a blow for the ECFC by beating a 10-0 Springfield tandem join up. Husson will be leaving the ECFC following the 2018 season for the Commonwealth Coast Conference and other ECFC teams will have to build their programs to the stature of Husson and nought cause to begin more blows for the league if it is to climb above its lowly... The way a league is regarded becomes pretty important at the end of the regular edible when at-large bids are awarded and the seeds are configured. Dual participation — playing two sports in the same season — is unusual but there have certainly been a platoon examples of it. One of the more common ones is to have a player from the soccer team handling the kicking duties on the school’s... Usually the kicker is solely focused on the art of kicking and not all-in on the write to aspect of football. Not so with Fair Haven soccer player Parker Morse. He was third in tackles on the Fair Haven federal championship football squad’s kickoff team this season. One of the more notable soccer-football performers was Bruce Tobin, who did it for Stevens Hilarious of Claremont, N. H. and then Rutland High. Tobin’s real distinction is that he was Vermont’s first state decathlon winner in 1976. ————. I pulled up to the drive-finished with at a fast food restaurant the other day and there was Jamison Evans. That is the way it is with many high school basketball players — the first day of practice is like a festival. Jamison and his Rutland High teammates are eager to begin defense of the program’s first state crown in 50 years. If you are a new mentor like West Rutland boys hoop coach Jordan Tolar, the senses are heightened all the more for your first practice. Carry out it on. There is nothing like a new season. Sean Shepardson scored 1,298 points during his basketball career at Poultney High Way of life. This week his cousin, Kelli Shepardson, who is from Little Falls, N. Y. , came to Poultney in the uniform of Cazenovia College and dropped 20 points on Immature Mountain College in her team’s victory. Source: www.rutlandherald.com
