Gardening trip –A minibus full of Brompton and District Gardening Club members and friends visited the Autumn Flower Show at Harrogate. It was the second such trip, the first being to Sledmere Walled Garden in July. Both trips were organised by club chairman Anne Deehan. The next meeting of the club is in the village hall on Wednesday, September 28 at 7. 30pm when Paul Turner will talk about herbs and garlic. All Saints - The harvest festival service at All Saints Church on Sunday starts at 6pm. There will be a hot supper in the village hall afterwards. Gifts of produce from parishioners will be kept to go to the Rainbow Centre, Scarborough , with contributions from the children of Brompton and Sawdon Primary School who have their harvest celebration in All Saints the following Wednesday. The Rainbow Centre in Scarborough is run alongside St Mary’s Church in Scarborough and supports those from the most disadvantaged part of the borough. Village hall - Malton Male Voice Choir return to the village hall by on Friday, October 7 at 7. 30pm. Admission is £4 to include tea and biscuits. Jumble sale – There will be a jumble sale in the village hall in Church Houses, from 2pm on Saturday. may be left in the hall on Friday. Ladies Fellowship – The group met for the first time since the summer outing to see the gardens at Sleightholmedale Lodge. Helen Robertshaw opened the meeting with a prayer for each new day. The speaker for the evening was Cath Nicholson’s daughter, Amy, who is deputy manager in a residential care home in Pickering. She spoke about how she started work in the elderly care sector straight from school as a domestic and worked her way up to her current position. Birthdays in September were celebrated by Jeanne Binns, Andrea Cooper, Eleanor Harrison, Margery Roberts, Kathy Robson and Jean Sherman. Audrey Bell celebrates her birthday in early October. Camera club - Adrian White from Leeds Audio Visual Group was the speaker at a recent meeting. The Hazlehurst competition will be held on Thursday, October 6 Open Show - Kirkbymoorside Horticultural Society Open Show is being held on Saturday in the Memorial Hall. Entries can be taken the evening before the show and on show day up to 10. 30am. All exhibits are to be staged by 11am. The show opens to the public at 2pm. Trophies will presented at 4. 30pm. There are 127 classes.
